Biography of Orlando Garcia-Piedra MD
During his childhood in Cuba, Dr. Garcia-Piedra enjoyed a life of plenty, as part of a politically powerful family in mid 50s Havana, the capital of Cuba, a country at war, until, at age 12, he was forced to emigrate to the United States the night power changed hands, January 1, 1959. Growing uncertainty over Cuba’s proper role in the world, induced him to discern his personal duty as an American citizen, and Cuban expatriate.
A world traveler, his education began at La Salle School in Havana, before moving abroad, first to the US, and then to Madrid, and Zaragoza, Spain, where he became a doctor in Medicine. Now, as the author of his childhood memoir, and with the benefit of an education in medicine, Dr. Garcia-Piedra is blessed with the clarity and understanding that comes from experience and wisdom. Now, he knows the child well, the impact he had on his relationships --- family and friends --- and how others impacted his development.
Dr. Garcia-Piedra, and his wife, Mary Carmen, raised a family in central and south Florida. They have three children and six grandchildren, who fill their blessed lives with joy and happiness. As Anesthesiologist, he has provided physician anesthesia services to well over seventy thousand patient during his 40 year medicine career.
